This crochet crown headband is a simple and practical project that’s great for beginners and enjoyable for anyone who likes making cozy accessories. The pattern includes clear step-by-step instructions and photos, so you can easily follow along even if you’re new to crochet. It’s a comfortable and stylish way to keep warm during the colder months, adding a subtle textured detail that makes it stand out from an ordinary headband.

One of the best parts about this design is its flexibility—you can easily adjust the size as you go, making it suitable for both children and adults. It works up quickly, so it’s perfect for last-minute gifts. Choose soft, warm yarns in neutral shades for an everyday winter accessory, or go with bold colors to make it more playful. Whether you make it for yourself or someone else, this crochet crown headband is a cozy, functional project that’s easy to enjoy and wear all season long.

Measuring Your Head

For the headband to fit snuggly, it should be 5-8 cm (2-3 in) smaller than your head circumference. As the general guideline, you can use our Hat Size Chart

For example, my head circumference is 56 cm (22 in), and my headband is 50 cm (20 in). Feel free to add or reduce the number of rows if you need.

Pattern Notes

This is a beginner-friendly project and the pattern uses standard US terms.

Materials and Tools

  • DK weight yarn: white, light pink – 100% acrylic
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Measurements

  • Width: 9″ / 23 cm
  • Height: 9″ / 23 cm

Stitches and Abbreviations

Notes:

  • You can modify your headband size during the process by adding more or less rows in the ribbing part.
  • The headband is worked flat, back and forth in rows creating a rectangle panel. Then two sides are being joined together.
  • The “ch 1” doesn’t count as a stitch.

Ribbing Part:

Using the white yarn:

Slip knot, ch 9

Row 1: hdc 8 in the back bumps, ch 1, turn

Row 2-56: hdcBLO 8, ch 1, turn

At this point, you can adjust your headband size. Do as many rows as your head circumference. Keep in mind that the ribbing part is a little bit stretchy so, in the end it might be longer than you expected. I advise making 3 rows less than your head size.

Crown Part:

*[sc, dc, dc] means you need to do sc and 2 dc in one stitch.

Change the color to light pink, start to crochet on the side of the ribbing.

Row 1: ch 1, sc 85, ch 1, turn (85)

Row 2-5: ([sc, dc, dc], skip 2) 28x, skip 2, sc, ch 1, turn

Row 6: sc 85, change the color to white, ch 1, turn

Row 7: slstBLO 2, (skip 2, tr 6 in one st, skip 2, slstBLO 7) 6x, skip 2, slstBLO 6, ch 1, turn (85)

Row 8: slstFLO 9, (picot, slstFLO 13) 6x, picot, slstFLO 5, fasten off.

After finishing row 8, now the “the wrong side” is facing you. Of course you can choose which side looks better for you. Join two sides together by slst along on the “wrong side”. Fasten off, cut the yarn and weave in ends to hide them. Flip the crown on the “right side”.

Your crown headband is ready!
