The Apache Tear stitch is a wonderful technique for making geometric designs in crochet. The resulting patterns are absolutely mesmerizing and gorgeous, especially when coupled with the correct choice of colors. The Apache Tear will work, of course, with a garish, hippy-trippy color scheme, but it really comes into its own when you work it in a carefully selected gradient of colors. In addition to these aspects, the apache tear is super versatile and makes a very strong, densely stitched surface that is great for projects that need a sturdy yet supple, textile-like surface. See below for some ideas and a sample of the great variety of possible Apache Tear projects.

This lovely shoulder bag is a wonderful example of how the strength and density of the Apache Tear stitch combine with the great suppleness of the final project, enabling it to softly bend and flow, yet retain its carrying capacity. Note how the subtle gradient of purples and grays makes these two otherwise identical bags so very different.
