About the Author

Hi! I’m Aymara, a crochet designer from Argentina. I’ve been designing and creating crochet patterns for several years, developing original projects with special attention to detail and making sure my instructions are clear and easy to follow. Although amigurumi is an important part of my work, I enjoy exploring different areas of crochet and creating all kinds of projects, from decorative pieces to functional designs. I love turning an idea into a finished project and sharing it with others through my patterns.

I live with my husband in a small, peaceful town in Argentina, surrounded by nature. I enjoy traveling, discovering new places, and appreciating the simple moments in life. I also enjoy playing paddle tennis whenever I have the opportunity. All of these experiences are part of my inspiration and influence the way I create.

For a long time, I worked creating crochet designs and patterns for other people. Recently, I decided to take a new step and start working for myself, slowly building my own shop and social media presence, where I can share and sell my own designs.

I’m sharing my links with you:

Notes Before Starting:

Take a few minutes to read through the entire pattern before you begin. This will give you a clear idea of the order of the steps, the materials, and the techniques used.

Have all your materials ready before starting, especially a stitch marker or a small piece of colored yarn to mark the beginning of each round.

Stuff the pieces little by little and carefully, avoiding overfilling so the fabric does not become deformed.

Use pins to position the pieces (ears, arms, and tail) before sewing them, making sure they are properly placed.

We will crochet and sew each piece step by step.

To wash the elephant, always hand wash with cold water and mild soap.

Do not use a washing machine or dryer. Let it dry on a towel at room temperature and handle the details with care.

And most importantly: don’t get frustrated if something doesn’t turn out perfect the first time.

If you have any questions or would like to show me your little elephant, you will find my contact information at the end of the PDF.

Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

A hand holding a small, gray, bell-shaped object from a free crochet pumpkin pattern with a horizontal slit.

Now we will continue crocheting the trunk. Continue with Gray yarn.

Place the head in the indicated position (see image).

Next, count 5 stitches to the left and from there insert the hook into the fifth stitch, pull the yarn through as shown, and make 1 chain to begin. Then work 18 stitches around the opening: 5 sc on the bottom, 9 sc on the top, and 4 sc remaining on the bottom.

If you wish, place a stitch marker in the first stitch to help guide you.

This means: Rnd 1: 18 sc around the opening (18)

Continue working in a spiral. Insert the hook into the first sc of the previous round and begin from there.

Rnds 2-5: 1 sc in each stitch (18)

Rnd 6: (4 sc, dec)x3 (15)

Rnds 7-10: 1 sc in each stitch (15)

Rnd 11: (3 sc, dec)x3 (12)

Rnds 12-14: 1 sc in each stitch (12)

Rnd 15: (4 sc, dec)x2 (10)

Rnds 16-17: 1 sc in each stitch (10)

Rnd 18: (1 sc, 3 hdc, 1 sc)x2 (10)

Cut the yarn and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew the tip of the trunk by passing the needle through the back loops of the stitches, gently tightening to close the opening without deforming the shape.

Before stuffing the head, place the safety eyes between rounds 13 and 14 of the head (leave a space of 9 stitches between them).

Then stuff the head.

Now we will crochet the legs. We will start by making one leg first, then crochet the second leg. Once both are finished, we will join them together to continue crocheting the body as one piece.

The easily printable Sweet Little Elephant PDF version is available in our shop:

Legs – make 2

Use Gray yarn.

Rnd 1: 5 sc in a magic ring (5)

Rnd 2: 5 inc (10)

Rnd 4: BLO: 1 sc in each stitch (15)

Rnd 5: 1 sc in each stitch around (15)

Cut the yarn and make another leg, but do not cut the yarn on the second leg, as you will continue crocheting the body from there.

Two small, crocheted gray circles for an elephant amigurumi attached to a ball of yarn by a single strand.

Rnd 6: Joining the legs: 3 ch, then insert the hook into the leg where you cut the yarn and crochet 15 sc around that leg, (place a marker in the first stitch to mark the beginning of the round).

Next, crochet 1 sc in each of the 3 chains (3 sc), then 15 sc around the second leg, and finally 3 sc on the other side of the chains (along the opposite side of the initial 3 chains you made). At the end of this round, you will have 36 stitches in total.

This is: 3 ch, 15 sc around the first leg, 3 sc in the 3 ch, 15 sc around the second leg, 3 sc in the 3 ch (36)

We continue cocheting the body.

Flower – make 2

Use Pink yarn.

In a magic ring, work: (3 ch, 2 dc, 3 ch, sl st)x5

Assembling

1. Sew the arms leaving one round free below the neck.

2. Sew the head to the body, making sure the elephant’s trunk is well centered and properly aligned before closing.

3. To sew the ears, fold them in half and pass the needle through 3 stitches to shape them (see image). Then sew them to the head between rounds 10 and 11, making sure they are well positioned.

4. Sew the tail.

5. With thin Black yarn, embroider the eyebrows, leaving a space of 3 rounds above the eyes. Each eyebrow should cover one round, worked on a diagonal, and span 3 stitches.

6. Then embroider the trunk as well, making two decorative lines to add detail and definition (optional).

A grey crocheted elephant toy crafted with the same attention to detail as a crochet pumpkin pattern.

7. Then embroider a black line just above the eye, placing it parallel to the eyebrow to enhance the expression.

Follow the image as a reference for its placement and shape.

8. To finish the embroidery, using thin white yarn, make a small crescent-shaped line below each eye, following the curve gently to add a highlight and expression.

9. To finish (optional), glue the beads to the center of each flower and then sew the flowers onto the ears, making sure they are well centered and secure.
