Charlotte’s Sunshine Baby and Charlotte – Large Square [Free Crochet Pattern]

Article:
Charlotte’s Sunshine Baby and Charlotte – Large Square [Free Crochet Pattern]
Discover the charm of a detailed crochet blanket in light green and gray, reminiscent of Charlotte's Sunshine Baby. It features a floral pattern and intricate border designs, all crafted as part of a free crochet pattern using large square motifs.

In this article:

The Charlotte square is a beautiful square-within-a-square pattern that will surely be the conversation piece of the room it graces. These are large squares, sometimes 14″ or more on a side, with fancy, frilly or wavy edges and a literal infinity of possibilities in the middle. The central, on-point square usually defines the main theme, and is then surrounded by concentric squares that give it its placement.

This particular iteration of the Charlotte square is unique in its amazing use of voids to define the petals of flowers surrounding the central rosette. In particular, the intermediate field-of-flowers band is very attractive and clearly delineates two areas of the square. This will be a lovely decorative accessory for a sideboard or a cushion.

Here is an alternative of the same pattern, made with a more pronounced, 3D central rosette and a more delicate use of voids, giving the square a denser, drapier look. Note how the intermediate band of windows is very similar to the previous square, but in combination with the rest gives a very different effect. To finish this square, the Around the Bases border was used.

Why do some ‘free’ patterns, when you click on them, say “Alert: Content is Protected!” How can it be free and then be protected at the same time. I have
run into this problem a few times on this site.

Thank you for your answer,
Jo Burns

Good afternoon, you say that the baby blanket requires 1 skein of Fresh Cream and 5 Skeins of Gray. Looking at the completed blanket, surely it should be 5 Skeins of cream and 1 of Gray? Your reply would be most welcome.

WOW! Love this pattern! The absolute best part is that the instructions and hints are perfect! A lot of free patterns either have mistakes or don’t explain properly. The pattern instructions are 100% accurate and easy to follow, and the hints are so very helpful. The pattern is gorgeous, using any colours, and the end result is stunning! Working on my first blanket, 3 squares in, but it will definitely not be my last one! Thank you!!

I looked for the pattern- 2024 (I don’t know how old this article is) and the link is working but there is no longer a pattern on raverly for it. I am so disappointed because I made the baby blanket but I need to make it a little bigger and really want the borders that are on this blanket. I am not creative enough to make my own fancy ones.
