Colorful Pumpkin Free Crochet Pattern

A pumpkin doesn’t always have to be orange. This colorful crochet pumpkin uses soft pastel shades to give a familiar autumn decoration a more playful and modern look. Measuring approximately 15 cm in height, it makes a nice size for placing on a shelf, table, windowsill, or alongside other seasonal decorations.  

The pattern is a fun way to experiment with different color combinations while keeping the classic pumpkin shape. You can follow the pastel version shown in the design or choose your own palette to match your home décor. Mixing several shades together can also make each pumpkin look a little different, so you can easily create a small collection.

Pattern Notes

This is a beginner-friendly crochet pattern, and I’m using US terms.

Materials and Tools

• Fine weight yarn: white, dark blue, light blue, orange, yellow, green, brown    
• crochet hook: 4 mm 
• tapestry needle  
• scissors  
• stuffing
• stitch markers

Measurements

• HEIGHT: 15 cm / 5.91″
• WIDTH: 17 cm / 6.7″

• st(s) – stitch(es) 
• ch – chain(s) 
• rd – round
• sc – single crochet 
• hdc – half double crochet
• slst – slip stitch
• MR – magic ring 
• inc – increase  
• dec – decrease 
• FLO – front loop only 
• BLO – back loop only
• Bobble stitch*  

How to crochet Bobble Stitch

Yarn over the hook, insert it into the stitch of the previous row and pull it through, as though making double crochet. You have 3 loops on the hook. Pull the yarn only through the first 2 loops, so you have 2 loops on the hook. Do not finish this double crochet. Create a second unfinished double stitch in the same way, and through the same stitch of the row below. Repeat it until you have 5 unfinished double crochet stitches on your hook and 6 loops on the hook in total. All unfinished double crochets are worked in the same stitch. Yarn over and pull through all loops, closing the bobble at the top. Finish by working single crochet in the next stitch to secure the bobble.

Cut off the yarn, leaving a long piece to assemble the pumpkin. 

Stem 

Using brown yarn: 

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6) 

Rnd 2: inc 6 (12) 

Rnd 3: BLO: sc 12 (12) 

Rnd 4-9: sc 12 (12) 

Rnd 10: dec 6 (6) 

Add some stuffing inside and cut off the yarn, leaving a longer piece for attaching later. 

Tendril

Using green yarn: 

Slip knot, ch 36 

Starting into 2^nd ch from the hook: inc 35 

Cut off, leaving a longer piece for sewing later.

Assembling 

1. Connect two sides of the pumpkin together using a tapestry needle.   

2. Pull the yarn through all the white stripes around.  

3. Pull it tightly and secure by tying. You can repeat pulling the yarn around to close the hole completely.  

4. Put the stuffing inside it. Make sure it is stuffed enough to keep the shape of it. 

5. Pull the yarn through the white stripes around to close the pumpkin. 

6. Tie it a few times to secure it. 

7. Attach the tendril and stem to the top by sewing it up.
