On a cold, blustery day there is nothing better than a bulky, draping cardigan to wrap your shoulders in. Whether you are sitting in front of the fire place, in front of the computer or over your crocheting or, better still, you have to go outside, a warm, thick and comfy cardigan will take the edge off of nasty weather. Also, they are great fun to make, are great for crocheting together with others and are a much appreciated gift.

Cocoon Sweater Free Crochet Pattern

The Cocoon Sweater is a great project, because it produces a fabulous garment but is not ver difficult to make. If you have some basic skills mastered, you will be able to put this one together no problem. It’s oversized fit enables you to wrap up in it, and the slouchy style is great for any casual occasion. All in all this is a great addition to your cardigan armory.

Handkerchief Cocoon Free Crochet Pattern

Here is another idea for a cardigan for wrapping up in. This handkerchief cocoon has stitched together corners that make them stay on your arms as you wear it, keeping this beautiful cardi on your shoulders. The beautiful, lacy back is greatly complemented by the denser outer edge that retains the structure around the arms and neckline.

Juno Chunky Shrug Free Crochet Pattern

This shrug is a great example of a project in this category. Made with thick yarn, the pattern creates a richly textured, dense shrug for keeping your shoulders warm, whether it be in your favorite armchair at home, or a cool night at the cottage in front of the fireplace and a glass of something  heartwarming in your hand.

Light Frost Blanket Sweater Free Crochet Pattern

Well, seeing as the weather suddenly took a turn for the worse, it’s high time that we start crocheting warm and comforting items. The Light Fros Blanket Sweater is another great cardigan pattern that’s easy to put together and leaves lots of room for your creativity with color combinations you could make. I especially like the fringy sleevelets.

Further building on the theme of “cozy” here is a VERY cozy and comforting cardi, with a beautiful hem around the neckline and an elbow-warming sleeve-less design that allows you to keep your arms close to your body and warm, but still giving you great hand mobility if you need it.
