What Makes This Blanket Stand Out?

This fabulous crochet blanket stands out from regular designs on many levels. First of all, it features a mesmerizing woven-like effect achieved through the carefully planned arrangement of solid granny squares. Moreover, the squares are lined up in cheerful rainbow colors that give off a fun summery feel.

Lastly, it’s made particularly attractive by its rounded corners. How many blankets with such a unique design have you seen?

Skill Level Needed for the Modern Weave Blanket?

I know its colorful, geometric design might be intimidating for those with little experience, but the truth is, this crochet pattern is very easy to handle. The individual squares are made from 4 rounds, which means that working up this blanket is a breeze.

Anyone with a fundamental knowledge of basic stitches, such as chains and double crochet, should be able to complete this project.

What’s the Best Yarn for This Pattern?

For this blanket project, you can use any yarn you want – it’s actually great for using up yarn scraps and odd skeins from your stash.

However, if you want to achieve a truly polished look like the one seen in the photos, use Stylecraft Special DK yarn in eight colors: Lipstick, Spice, Sunshine, Grass Green, Turquoise, Lapis, Magenta, and White. For each shade, you will need two balls, except for white, which requires three balls.

How Many Squares Do I Need to Make It?

For a blanket measuring 46″ x 66″, you will need 213 full granny squares and 40 half granny squares. But don’t let those numbers scare you off! The solid granny square is one of the simplest patterns that work up really quickly.
