Pattern Notes
This is an easy/intermediate project and the pattern uses standard US terms.
Materials and Tools
- Hobbii Portobello yarn – one skein of each color of your choice. One skein is 120 m per 50 g (131 yds per 1.76 oz). The content of this yarn is 60% Cotton, 28% Acrylic, 12% Wool. For one square I used about 5 g (0,18 oz) of yarn in total. I used the colors: Open Sea (79), Wild Berry (56), Antique Rose (53), Nougat (09), and Misty Green (113). You can use any other Worsted-weight yarn.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- scissors
- yarn needle (optional)
Measurements
- The square is 8,5 x 8,5 cm (3,35 x 3,35 in). Depending on your style of crocheting and the choice of yarn and hook, your square size may be different.
Stitches and Abbreviations
- ch – chain stitch
- sl st – slip stitch
- dc – double crochet
- st – stitch
- ch-sp – chain space (the space between the clusters of double crochets, or under the chain)
- C1 – the color of the heart
- C2 – the color of the background

Important!
- Your choice of colors will affect the visibility of the heart motif, so use contrasting colors for the best effect.
- Carefully read the Notes in the pattern for the best results.

Start (in C1): Chain 4, form a loop, and close it with a slip stitch. Note: You can also use a magic ring technique.
Round 1 (in C1): 2 ch, 2 dc, 2 ch, *3 dc, 2 ch* x 3, slip stitch into the second chain stitch.
Note: The first two double crochets of each next round are worked in the chain space behind the hook, which may be counterintuitive. They wrap around the turning chain, but it doesn’t affect the look of the final piece.
Round 2 (in C1): 3 ch, 2 dc in the ch-sp behind the hook, *3 dc, 2 ch, 3 dc* in the next three ch-sp, *3 dc, 2 ch* in the last ch-sp, sl st.
Note: Learn how to change colors in our article. Always crochet over the strand of unused color to avoid loose yarn on the back of your work.
