Raffia Beach Hat
Two wide-brimmed Raffia Beach Hats with lace bands—one in light blue displayed on a stand, and one in yellow worn by a person strolling along the seaside.

This beautiful crochet wide-brimmed hat by Joanne Loh will give you a chic lady-on-the-beach look. Made from raffia yarn, it’s a light and breathable summer accessory that will protect you from the sun. The hat also features a charming ribbon detail, making it even more stylish and elegant. Bring it with you on your beach vacation and stun everyone around with your fancy hot-weather style!

What Materials Will You Need For This Project?

For this crochet sun hat pattern, you will need from 1.5 to 2 skeins of raffia worsted yarn, depending on the size of your hat. The designer used Craft Passion Raffia With Passion to create the samples visible in the photos. Pair it with a 2.5 mm crochet hook to produce a tightly stitched fabric worked in single crochets.

Apart from these supplies, prepare also about 2 yards of 1 mm fishing line, adhesive tape, 1.25 yards of 1.5″ lace trim, and 1.25 yards of 3mm leather cord.

Is This Sun Hat Pattern Good For Beginners?

Yes, it is! The hat is worked in the round, starting from the crown and finishing at the brim. It features a uniform texture, meaning you will use only single crochets to create it. It’s a simple hat project that anyone with basic crochet knowledge can easily make.

What Head Sizes Does The Pattern Fit?

The instructions given in the pattern will let you create a hat that will fit a 21″ to 23″ head circumference. You can also modify its size by reducing the number of stitches worked in rounds. If you are not sure what size will fit you best, please check out our hat sizing guide for reference.

The pattern also allows you to adjust the width of the brim – a 6″-wide brim (the yellow hat) and a 5″ brim (the blue hat).
