Amazing Stained Glass Free Crochet Patterns

Orion Stained Glass

You might think that stained glass can’t be rendered too well in crochet, but that is not so. Crocheting can be a wonderful way to demonstrate a stained glass effect and mosaic squares that can be used to decorate just about any room in the house. Whether it’s a blanket, area rug or afghan, crocheted “stained glass” is just beautiful, as you will see below.

Rozeta Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

Here is a beautiful blanket CAL project inspired by and evocative of stained glass rosettes of Gothic churches (think of the huge rosette over the main door of Notre Dame). It is a very decorative and elegant project that will be the focal point of any room you choose to grace with it. What’s really surprising is the simplicity of the crocheting, and the different color variants corresponding to viewing a stained glass window at different times of the day. A link to the free pattern is below photos.

Orion Stained Glass, Free Crochet Pattern

The Orion Stained Glass pattern is a wonderful example of a Rainbow Ripple Blanket Pattern. The pattern takes on a starburst shape, initiated at its center and continued all the way to the outer edge. As designed, it has a wonderful color set very evocative of traditional stained glass. It’s perfect for a space that’c close to square, and is surprisingly easy. Because of the multitude of colors, you don’t need a lot of any particular one either, so it can use up some remnants as well.

Stained Glass Square Free Crochet Pattern

If you want to use this effect in a traditional square-based project, you should look into this one. The stained glass square is a similar idea, but on a smaller scale. You can work it into any project composed of crochet squares, thereby giving any item that stained-glass quality. It’s also quite beautiful all by itself, so you can use it as a coaster or doily as well.

Absolutely beautiful. I want to be like you when I grow up. I’m 67 now and starting to crochet again. I think I have time but I may never be as talented as you.
