Patchwork or square-based crochet is a wonderful way of making large and colorful blankets, afghans and throws. However, sometimes they can get a bit humdrum. So, wouldn’t it be great if you could make a blanket of squares but have it be a bit more visually exciting and fun? Well, here are some triangle-based blankets that show you how a blanket formed of squares (two triangles apiece) can be a fabulous project and a fun pastime. It’s great!

Coralie Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

The coralie blanket uses squares built of triangle halves in loud and bold colors together with a white edge to make a stunning and bold bedspread that will nicely offset subdued and monochrome walls so prevalent in today’s decor. This is a project that really allows you to express your color preferences or your mood in colors.

Origami Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

The Origami blanket is inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding, a beautiful craft of making complex and intricate shapes out of folded, colored paper. This blanket is an homage to that art, making use of geometric patterns, squares and triangles, to lay out a multi-faceted, caleidoscope-like design. This project is a MAL (Make-Along) that will run over 8 weeks.
