Pomp a Poodle Amigurumi
Two crocheted poodle toys, crafted from a free pattern, sit charmingly on a chair and floor—one pink adorned with a polka dot bow, the other blue featuring a striped bow.

This gal is poodleosity personified. She’s a great accessory for any decor, especially a girl’s room. Large, attractive, and thoroughly lovable, Pomp a Poodle will surely be a hit with anyone you choose to make it for!  This poodle is 13″ tall and measures 12″ from nose to end (excluding the tail).

Is the Pomp-a-Poodle Pattern Beginner-Friendly?

Ever dreamed of having a poodle? With this free crochet pattern by Nancy Anderson, you can own one anytime!

The design is very detailed and has many parts to assemble, so I would recommend it for those with intermediate experience and a very good knowledge of amigurumi techniques.

What Yarn Will I Need?

This crochet dog pattern calls for two different types of yarn. First, prepare some medium-weight yarn that you will use to build the poodle’s body.

To mimic a poodle’s iconic fluffy fur, the original project features Red Heart Pomp-a-Doodle, which is a super bulky yarn with a cute pom-pom texture. Unfortunately, the yarn is no longer available, but you can easily find some cool substitutes, such as Rico Design Pompon or Lion Brand Off The Hook.

How to Crochet the Perfect Poodle Shape

To bring your Pomp a Poodle Amigurumi to life, you will be crocheting each part separately to sew them together at the end.

The pattern features mostly basic stitches and some shaping, which shouldn’t be a problem for those who have their first plushie project behind them. The most challenging aspect of this project is assembling all the parts, including the pouf pieces for a polished look.

Customizing Your Poodle

Want to add a unique personality to your poodle plushie? Lucky you because this pattern can be customized in endless ways. Experiment with different colorways, adjusting it to the recipient’s gender or your dog’s appearance to create his miniature crochet representation.

Have you ever seen a poodle without a fancy bow or shiny collar? These cute little finishing touches are the perfect way to personalize your amigurumi dog.
