Beautiful Bridal Shawl
A woman wearing a white bridal shawl with intricate floral crochet patterns over a white dress stands gracefully on a green lawn.

Special days require special garments, and what day could be more special than your wedding day? Well, hand-made custom garments made for that day by hand.

This beautiful shawl for wearing over a shoulderless wedding dress is a beautiful example of a crochet shoulder throw that can perfectly match the bridal outfit. The lacework is beautifully trimmed with denser flowers, which also give the shawl some drape, allowing it to hang smoothly down your back. This is a beautiful project and a great idea for a gift!

Is This Bridal Shawl Pattern Beginner-Friendly?

The Bridal Shawl crochet pattern by Kimberly K. McAlindin is an intermediate-level project. You work it with a combination of basic and tall stitches, such as treble crochet or double treble crochet.

The shawl also features a lovely border that involves crocheting a whole row of beautiful flower motifs. Each piece is made separately and joined using a “join-as-you-go” method.

What Thread and Hook Size Should I Use?

Ready to do some lacework? This crochet shawl pattern is all about airy and drapey fabrics. If you want your project to turn out as great as the sample shown in the photos, make sure to use the recommended materials.

To crochet this beautiful shawl, go for a thread instead of yarn. The pattern calls for Aunt Lydia’s Fashion 3 Crochet, a 100% mercerized cotton thread. You will also need two crochet hook sizes – 3.75mm for the shawl and 3.25 mm for the flower border.

Should I Block the Shawl After Finishing?

Yes, blocking your finished crochet shawl is highly recommended! Why? It helps even out the stitch layout, giving the fabric a cleaner look and softer feel.

To block your shawl, soak it in lukewarm water for about 30 minutes. You can add a bit of wool wash that will soften the fabric. Next, squeeze gently your shawl to remove the water and spread it flat on a blocking board with T-pins. If you don’t have one, lay it on a table or floor instead and leave it until it dries.
