Can Beginners Crochet This Pattern Successfully?

The Pocket Bee crochet pattern is so quick and easy to complete that every beginner can give it a try. It has a simple oval shape, so there is minimal shaping required. You will also use basic stitches, easy amigurumi techniques, and simple color changes. However, you need to know how to read crochet written patterns, as there is no video tutorial.

What Yarn Works Best For The Pocket Bee?

The pattern calls for medium-weight yarn. It can be any yarn of your choice, cotton or acrylic. The bee is so small that you can make it using just scraps from your stash. For the samples visible in the picytes, the designer used Red Heart Super Saver, which is a popular choice for amigurumi projects.

You will also need two hook sizes. A 3.5 mm one for the head and body and a 2.5 mm one for wings and stinger.

The tiny crown for queen bee is done with a fine crochet thread, such as Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 Crochet Thread, and a 1.4 mm hook.

What Size Does The Pocket Bee Turn Out?

When made with recommended supplies, your crochet bee amigurumi should be approx. 2.5” long. If you want them to be larger, simply use a thicker yarn or a bigger hook. However, this size is perfect for turning these bees into cute keychains, bag charms, and decorative pieces.
