Even though modern design consists mainly of straight lines and geometric shapes, sometimes it’s nice to put some old-timey, classic elegance into our lives. What better way than a doily, which is the absolute opposite of current form-through-function design. A classic doily is an intricate, fancy and convolved piece whose main function is decorative and eye-pleasing. They may protect a sideboard or coffee table, but their main reason for existence is artistic.
Aryan Doily
Here is a beautiful doily inspired by the artowrk of the Aryans, an ancient people who came from central Asia and settled throughout much of India, the Middle East and large portions of Europe. Their influence can be seen in the artwork of many people, and this is easy to see in this project, with it’s recurrent floral designs and lace. This project will be the beauty in the eye of the beholder. Best of all, it’s easy enough for beginners to attempt.

They are very attractive and unique decorations for your home, much fancier and more intricate than plain crochet doilies. Although you can make them in monochrome, the contrasting edge in addition to a vibrant center color really makes them pop.
