Are you planning to make a hexagon blanket or other hexagon-based project? Do you want your project to look neat? It’s time to find a perfect half hexagon pattern which allows you to fill in the spaces between the full hexagons and get a really straight border.

Why Use Half Hexagons in Projects?

The most irritating thing that a crocheter who works with full hexagons gets is the holes. It’s especially problematic when making big items like throws and blankets. A half hexagon pattern like this design by Kara Gunza will help keep things in order, creating a nice straight edge. These pieces will fill in all those spaces between full hexagons, making your creations look neat and beautiful.

How to Crochet a Half Hexagon

Making a crochet half hexagon is easy since it’s crocheted in rows, unlike full hexagons. Instead of working continuously in rounds, you’ll complete each row individually with the right side facing you. This technique helps create a straight edge on the sides of your blanket or other projects. After each row of a pattern, the yarn is fastened off to join a new color.

Tips for Seamlessly Joining Half Hexagons

When assembling your half hexagons, it’s important to keep things as neat as possible. One of the most common techniques is join-as-you-go (JAYGO). This method joins the elements during the fourth round without letting any bulky seams interrupt the flow of your design. Don’t be afraid to experiment with various color combinations to add flair to your design!

I love this instructional step by step pattern, and the link to the granny edging pattern also that finishes off the project if you don’t use half hex motifs for squared edges.
Thankyou, you have solved a little unfinished project for me 🙂
