Beautiful Ocean Shell Blanket Ideas
Crocheted baby set featuring a turquoise and white ocean shell blanket with a matching hat. Another image shows a detailed, floral-patterned crocheted blanket in soft pastel colors.

In this article:

Cozy, yet attractive blankets, here we come!

So, as its absolutely dreary outside, I thought we’d look at some lovely, ocean-inspired blankets to help us reminisce of summer beach holidays. Thus here are some gorgeous, shell-stitched blankets in gentle, tropical ocean hues. Undeubtedly, the soothing, smooth color transitions are just the thing the doctor ordered to help soften a dark, sombre fall mood. Indeed, there are few things as serene and calming as a blanket like this, which will be perfect as both for the baby and for yourself. Indeed, one would also be a cherished and prized gift.

Beautiful Shell Blanket

To begin with, here is such a blanket using a gradient yarn. Consequently, the transition from the white to the pale aquamarine/cyan is ever so gradual and placid. Overall, there are no hard contrasts to distract you from the meditative beauty.

However, an ocean shell  blanket can also be made using different yarns of carefully chosen colors, not a pre-made ombre one. Therefore, here is a beautiful blanket that presents gentle color transitions, yet is made 4 distinct colors. In particular, I think the transition is well combined with the alternating textures of the color bands.

I made the square with the 4 colors. But how do I do the row to make the edges straight and what about a border and sewing them together. I feel like the pattern isn’t complete.

Thank you!

Your link takes us to the beautiful shells blanket which is done in one piece. I would like the pattern to the blanket that is done in squares. There should be a pattern to tell the square directions, how to join the squares, and the boarder used. This is the pattern I would like, not the one done in one piece.

Just like all the other people who commented — I would like to do the blanket “granny square-like”. Please let us know how to square off the shell motif and joining method.

I would also like the finished pattern in making the squares, how to put them together and then the finishing border.

To you asking for the square pattern,.

Under the photo of the square blanket is a sentence which says, frank.and.rosie’s project photographed here.
‘Here’ is a link, when you click on it it takes you to the ‘ravelry ‘ webpage where there are pics and written instructions for the squares and the border too.
Good luck, I’m going to make one too.

Dear Ms. Nally, I have searched high and low for the COMPLETE PATTERN for the Open Shell Blanket that is made by crocheting the individual granny squares that are then crocheted together and then completed with a border. I have followed every suggestion made by others in the comment section and every suggestion takes me back to the ONE PIECE BLANKET. I also noticed in the comments that there was NEVER a reply from the designer of this pattern, but by other crocheters looking for the same granny square afghan pattern (you know, the beautiful two-tone teal afghan with the white border). As the designer, please put us all out of our misery and publish the pattern as you have it pictured. Your followers of this afghan will love you for it!

I did some research and this is the designer that gave the inspiration for the granny square afghan by Frank and Rosie. It is a free Ravelry download.
