Spring has sprung, and there’s lots of ways to celebrate its return. In crocheting, flower motifs are a great way to enjoy the season and get into the spirit of things. Crochet squares are, in turn, a wonderful way to incorporate them into many different projects. The versatility of the basic crochet square is immense, given that it can be made into a blanket, pillow, bag or garment; either as a basic building block or as a central motif. Have a look at the flower squares below. What can you make with them?
Maybelle Baby Blanket Free Crochet Pattern
The Maybelle baby blanket is a lovely, flower-themed crochet project using absolutely gorgeous squares with colorful rosettes. I especially like the spectrum breakdown of colors, which demonstrates more hues than a traditional rainbow, giving it the appearance of a gentler color gradient. Well done! Also, please note that these squares can be used for other projects as well, and the baby blanket can also be made much larger, into an adult blanket as well.

Weekend in Stockholm Throw Free Crochet Pattern
The Weekend in Stockholm throw is a traditional square-based blanket with flower centers. The background is densely stitched, giving the blanket a heavy drape, but the flowers themselves use voids to outline and highlight the petals. Like other square-based projects, these beautiful building blocks can also be used to make other projects as well, for example, a matching cushion (hint hint!).

Scrapsrific Rainbow Blanket
Scrapsrific Rainbow Blanket is a cal that still goes on. The finest selection of squares combined to make a 32″ x 32″ (or bigger) blanket are made from leftover yarn. In the end, you not only get a stunning blanket, but you could add a few new squares to your crochet skills and use some yarn odds and ends to have more space to buy a new yarn 🙂
