Sunflowers make a great subject for a crochet pattern, whether you make a single one as a study and passtime, or you make a number of squares for a larger project such as an afghan or blanket. These two sunflower squares are a beautiful example of how a single flower motif can be worked into two very different designs. The first one is almost an abstraction, with the sunflower shape being more suggested, than defined. It gives the impression of a sunflower, rather than an image. The second square is a more tactile, 3D image representation; setting the heliotrope in its full glory. An interesting idea would be to color match the backgrounds, and to combine the two in one project. Whatever you do, enjoy this wonderful flower.. A link to the free pattern is below photos.
