I’m a craft designer and author of hundreds of articles and reviews about crocheting and other crafts. I search out and present novel approaches to classic patterns and techniques to encourage you to try something new. I’m delighted that so many of you read my posts and that I can contribute to promoting our crochet community. I’m interested in crafts, interior design and love traveling and sitting next to a campfire. I live with my husband and three kids in the Rockies.

If you are here, this means that classic style beanies or hats  are not your thing. You feel they don’t fit the shape of you head or make your face look funny. What is my advice?

Well, have you ever tried a pattern, where there is some asymmetry just in the front of the beanie? Try one diagonal braid from the bottom to the top of the hat, like the in Slant Beanie Hat Free Crochet Pattern.  A link to the free tutorial is below photos. You will be very pleased with the results.

A Turban – shaped beanie can also be a solution. It gives you a totally different look than the traditional beanie. Many people who don’t like a simple hat feel good in this shape. Here is a leaf-braided Crochet beanie hat and a 3D flower motif using the Tunisian stitch.  A link to the free tutorial is below photos.
