I’m a craft designer and author of hundreds of articles and reviews about crocheting and other crafts. I search out and present novel approaches to classic patterns and techniques to encourage you to try something new. I’m delighted that so many of you read my posts and that I can contribute to promoting our crochet community. I’m interested in crafts, interior design and love traveling and sitting next to a campfire. I live with my husband and three kids in the Rockies.

Sometimes functionality is its own beauty

There is any number of functional items that you can make yourself using yarn and a crochet hook! In minutes you can create useful items that have their own beauty borne of this functionality. Today’s collection of crochet kitchen scrubbies is full of inspiration. Since scrubbies is a staple item in any kitchen, you can easily refresh yours or create a lovely gift for a friend or family member. You can choose your favourite colors and textures to make them even more personal! Use leftover yarn scraps for these projects as they don’t require much.

Here is one that doesn’t even ned yarn. For example, this scrubbie is crocheted (that’s right, crocheted!) out of your standard nylon grocery mesh. It’s stiff enough to scrub away grime, and there’s no limit on the raw material, so long as you buy onions or lemons in a mesh bag.

So, having completed scrubbies 101, here is scrubbies 201. This crochet kitchen scrubby makes use of cotton yarn for the “sponge” portion and rough scrubbie yarn for the scratch pad. Consequently, you have a homemade scrubbie that functions like a store bought one, but you can have it in any color you choose (and you don’t even have to choose black!).
